Eight generations of cider makers certify Barkaiztegi’s trajectory.

Specifically, our origins hearken back to the year 1680, when Lorenzo Irizar established himself in the Barkaiztegi hamlet, coming from Gabiria. At that time, there is evidence that cider was prepared in the aforementioned hamlet.

Generation after generation, both cider and the hospitality sector have taken on ever-greater relevance therein, thereby improving their quality by means of professionalization, implementing technology and innovation. It was in 1930 that Barkaiztegi was established as a restaurant and cider house.

With much effort and dedication, Jose Mari Irizar and Josefa Goñi have pushed it forward to our day and age. Currently, their son, Pedro Irizar, and his wife, Irene Elustondo, are managing both the restaurant and the cider house.
